it's only 3m, so if he sucks it isn't like he ties the team's hands. On the other hand, if they were going to take a flier on a cheap player who had problems/sucked in 2009, I would have gone with someone with some actual upside. Huff absolutely sucked in 2009, but if he catches some magic we could see an .800 OPS guy with shitty defense. If he repeats 2009, he's worse than Ishikawa.
I'd prefer Delgado. He'd either be awesome or hurt. We wouldn't have to suffer through months of a .600 OPS before Bochy decides that something needs to change.
If there's a real bright side to this signing, it's that it looks like Velez isn't going to be starting.
