It was interesting watching a couple of the games on TV down here (I went to the Thursday and Saturday night games).
So, I watched the Friday and Sunday games on local SD channel 4 (a station entirely dedicated to Padres baseball). Their announcers are Mark Grant, Tony Gwynn, and Steve Quis.
Much of their conversation during the entire series was about Lincecum, how dominant he was, and all three thought there was no question about it -- Timmy should get the nod for the Cy Young award. Grant was the most adamant about it.
Especially after Saturday night.
Also a huge topic of conversation was Pablo Sandoval, who Tony Gwynn was very impressed with. They couldn't contain their amazement of his offensive consistency and defensive prowess, and how he was able to handle playing three different positions in the series. They thought his defense at 1B, starting those two huge double plays Saturday night, coupled with his great performance behind the plate yesterday was remarkable and unique.
Anyhow, I always think it's neat to see the perspective of our guys from outside the SF bubble.
As an aside, apparently Mark Grant attributes much of his success as a player and maturation as a person to Kuip, saying he's one of his closest friends in the game.
