and i think his nonsense about contending this year and next year is a reflection of the pressure he feels to produce something immediately.

i'm not sure why ownership would feel he's better than what's out there... i think it's pretty clear that he is a dinosaur compared to what other teams have been doing with scouting and evaluating talent.

i don't buy the Bonds thing at all. i think he was limited at times by Magowan's lack of vision and that probably prevented an impact signing of someone like Guerrero that we always needed. i don't see how this absolves him of any of his multitude of blunders since the World Series. Magowan didn't tell him to sign Alfonzo, Benetiz and on down the line.

i think our expectations had gotten so low that we (myself included) are probably overracting a bit to their recent drafts. shouldn't building a strong farm system and actually paying attention during the draft be part of his job description?
