Giants send Horwitz to Triple-A Fresno
By David Biderman / MLB.com

SAN FRANCISCO -- Giants outfielder Brian Horwitz was optioned to Triple-A Fresno following Sunday's game, manager Bruce Bochy announced. The right-hander hit .304 in his first 23 at-bats, but he had just one hit in his past 15 at-bats.
"He's not getting a lot of playing time here," Bochy said. "We think [optioning Horwitz is] the best thing for us and we'll bring somebody up who has been getting consistent time and can help us."

That player won't be determined until Monday, but Bochy said it definitely won't be Nate Schierholtz, who's batting .290 with 11 home runs in 276 at-bats this year with the Grizzlies.

"We don't want him [Schierholtz] at this time to come up here and sit and pinch-hit and play occasionally in the outfield," Bochy said.

Schierholtz was placed on the seven-day disabled list with fatigue in his legs July 4, retroactive to July 2, meaning he wouldn't be able to play until July 9.
