Eric Loney drove in three runs today with doubles on 0-2 and 1-2 counts.
In the "old days", say Bob-Gibson-time, if the count was 0-2 the batter wouldn't get a ball to hit....maybe even a little chin music to drive him off the plate.
Nowadays, pitchers are throwing strikes on 0-2 and 1-2 counts when they should be looking to throw a pitch that drives the hitter off the plate or makes him swing dumbly at a pitch 3 inches off the outside corner. Throwing hittable pitches in those situations is just poor baseball pitching/coaching!
