6 pitchers were taken before him.

Hosmer, Alonso, and Smoak were projected to be the first 3 first basemen taken, and they were. No one was sure in which order. Hosmer had the big upside, but people thought Alonso and Smoak were even talents.

Reds took another good hitter, and is stock piled with guys that hit. Their organization is full of hitting prospects, but have no pitching. Kind of opposite of Giants.
